During
my visit to the Prefecture of Western Macedonia Greece. An important
area for the Anzacs as the first battles in Greece where Anzacs joined
the Brits and the Greeks in the Battle of Vevi and surrounding towns
before battles at the Aliakmon River
near Servia. This is where the Anzacs were first reformed in WW2 on 12
April 1941 and where they first fell and were captured on Greek soil. In
fact many Anzacs remain here their locations unknown. The Prefecture
wants to conduct an annual event in April with the support of the
Australian Embassy to honour the Anzacs. In fact the oldest WW2 memorial
in Greece is located at Xinon Nero and built in 1945 to honour those
that were the first to fall in Greece
